Who is Mr. Gillett?
Background
I was born in Belize City, Belize in Central America. My family immigrated to South Central Los Angeles when I was 6 years old. I graduated from Manual Arts High School in 2000 and accepted an athletic scholarship from Oregon State University to play football. I played wide receiver for coach Dennis Erickson and Mike Riley from 2000 to 2005. Athletics is only a small part of my life now. Spending time with my family and educating young people is my true passion. I believe all students are capable of achieving great things. My job is to give students the tools to do it.
Education
I studied Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education at OSU before graduating with a Liberal Studies degree in 2005. I have also earned a Business Administration degree from Portland State University in 2007 and a Masters of Education from Pacific University in 2013. In the 2011-2012 school year I was a middle school teacher in Denver, Colorado. I taught 6th grade World Studies as well as 7th and 8th grade Math Intervention classes. I also coached the Boys flag football team. Currently, I am attending the University of Oregon getting my Initial Administrative License. I definitely value education an the impact it has in our lives.
Family
I live in Eugene with my wonderful wife Molly, my beautiful 3 year old daughter Olivia, my cat Cinny (short for cinnamon) and my unofficial class mascot Rosco, my Yellow Labrador Retriever. I am very family oriented. I enjoy spending my free time doing fun outdoor activities whenever I get a chance.
